We have done it again!

Well, we are so so proud to that we were Finalists for yet another Award  National Pig Awards
Our Family business (JM & MA Thompson and Sons), was founded by John and Margaret Thompson in the early 70’s. The Farm and business has changed so much since then, with the addition of our busy on farm shop, TFM Butchers, but we wouldn’t be where we are today without all the hard work, past and present, and passion for our industry our family has.  As a small independent business this means so much.

We are so so happy to be able to announce the we have been awarded the 2-star Award for our Isleham Blue Pork™ 

More than 14,000 products were put through the competition’s rigorous blind judging process; and Isleham Blue Pork™ Shoulder was dubbed a “visually very appealing with crispy crackling that has cooked extremely well and is perfectly seasoned. The pork has a wonderful flavour, and the meat is firm but moist releasing delicious juices when carved” at the world’s most coveted food and drink awards. 4,078 products were awarded a Great Taste 1-star – ‘food and drink that delivers fantastic flavour’, 1,237 were awarded a Great Taste 2-star – ‘above and beyond delicious’, and 241 were awarded a Great Taste 3-star – ‘extraordinarily tasty food and drink’.

  Here are the Great Taste Award Judges' comments:

"This large joint is visually very appealing with crispy crackling that has cooked extremely well and is perfectly seasoned. The pork has a wonderful flavour and the meat is firm but moist releasing delicious juices when carved."

"A beautiful, impressive looking shoulder joint with a lovely bronzed crackling on the top. The distribution of fat throughout the meat, gives this meat its moistness and making it very delicious in flavour. We couldn't stop eating it!!"

  "What crackling! Some of the best the judges can recall eating, the skin has glorious depth of flavour. The meat is sweet and slightly gamey, and whilst not up to the same level as the skin, was universally loved by the judges."

What is Great Taste?

Recognised as a stamp of excellence and actively sought out by food lovers and retailers alike, Great Taste, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, values taste above all else. All products in the line-up for judging are blind tasted: every product is removed from its packaging so it cannot be identified, before entering a robust, layered judging process.

  This year, the judging took place over 90 days across two judging locations (Dorset and London) with a panel of more than 500 judges. This year’s line-up saw food and drink products submitted from a staggering 110 different countries from across the world.

We have just found out that we are a Finalist again for our Isleham Blue Pork™.

  We attended the Gala Evening but we didn't win.  We are very proud of our product which we breed and rear but we didn't stand a chance against the likes of Waitrose or M&S.

  If you haven't shopped with us before, it will be usefull for you to be aware that we are a Family run Farm, we do not have alot of staff so we are working every day out on the farm and also running a very successfull, very busy on-farm Butchers Shop.
